Free Fire MAX now limits daily playtime and spending in India: what Play It Right changes
If Free Fire MAX has nudged you about a break, or told you your daily limit is over, nothing is broken on your phone. Garena switched on a system called Play It Right for Indian players from 4 August 2026. It counts how long you play and how much you spend each day, and cuts you off once you pass the playtime limit for your age group or the reported spending cap.
Most players saw the prompts first and asked questions later. Here is the plain version.
What changed and when
Since 4 August 2026, Free Fire MAX accounts in India sit under a new set of rules. There is a daily playtime cap tied to your age, a break reminder after about two hours of play, and a daily spending cap that reports tie to under-18 accounts. Reports say under-18 accounts also get a parental consent step that needs OTP verification. One outlet says mobile-number linking is now mandatory for every player, so adults may see a verification screen too.
Garena has not published a detailed statement about the system. The outlets covering the rollout describe it as a push toward safer and more responsible gaming habits in India. This is not a ban, and it is not a penalty for anything you did in a match.

Most reports call it Rs 7,000 in money, covering top-ups and other in-game purchases together, and attach it to under-18 accounts specifically. One report describes it instead as a 7,000 diamond limit, and another says players 18 and over have no purchase limit at all. Garena has not settled any of it, so do not assume a figure for adults.
Some coverage bundles these limits into the OB55 update, which is not expected until September. The rules went live on 4 August, so you do not need a patch to see these prompts.
How the daily clock works
Garena has not published how the clock resets. The one outlet that describes the mechanic says the limit is counted inside a 24-hour window, and that you wait for the next cycle once you hit it. Nobody has confirmed whether that means a fixed reset or a window that moves with you, so treat it as roughly a day.
If you are 16, your cap is 3 hours. Two hours after school and one more in the evening uses it up.
Six hours is a lot for one day, so most adults meet the break reminder long before any cap.
For parents, in plain words
If your child is under 18, the game asks a parent or guardian for consent before the account carries on. The flow includes a mandatory OTP, a one-time code sent by SMS that gets typed back into the screen to confirm approval.
That code proves a real adult said yes, rather than a child ticking a box. So the parent should receive the OTP and enter it, not the child.
Say the next bit out loud at home. Nobody legitimate asks for that OTP over WhatsApp, Discord or a phone call. Fire Hub India never asks for OTPs. Your bank may send an OTP when you pay for a top-up, and that one goes into your own payment screen. Nobody, seller or stranger or “support agent”, ever needs you to read a code out to them.
Never share an OTP with anyone, for any reason. Scammers are already circling this consent flow, and the pitch will sound helpful: “bypass the limit”, “unlock 24 hours”, “parent verification service”. Any app, website or seller promising to remove your playtime or spending cap is running a scam, and the usual cost is the account itself.
What we still do not know
Several follow-up questions have no answer yet, and we would rather say so than guess. Garena has not published whether the cap can be appealed, raised or adjusted.
Age verification is the second gap. Under-18 accounts get a different limit and a consent step. One report says the age you enter during OTP verification is what sets your playtime, and that using someone else’s number to get around it is not allowed. Garena has not published how, or whether, that age is checked against anything.
Nobody has confirmed whether closing the app resets that two-hour break counter, or whether it keeps adding up across the day.
Competitive play is another gap. Grinders practise far more than six hours a day, and nothing has been published about how Play It Right treats esports players or scrims. Anyone following the FFMIC roadmap will want that answer.
The numbers could also move. Three hours, six hours and Rs 7,000 are what is reported today, with no promise they stay fixed.
What this means for you
For most players these caps will never bite. A couple of BR matches after school, some Clash Squad with friends, then homework, and you are nowhere near three hours.
The spending cap matters if you top up around events. Rs 7,000 in one day is serious money for most families, and hitting it by accident during a lucky-spin event is what this rule exists to prevent. Our diamonds value guide is worth ten minutes before your next top-up.
Almost everyone meets the two-hour break reminder first. It is a nudge, not a lockout. Seedhi baat, if it annoys you, that is roughly the point.
Common questions
Is Free Fire MAX banned in India?
No. Free Fire MAX is on the Indian Play Store, and Play It Right is a playtime and spending system, not a ban. The confusion comes from the original Free Fire app, blocked in India since February 2022.
Can I get more hours somehow?
Not published. Garena has not said whether the cap can be extended or adjusted for any account. Anyone selling you extra hours is lying to you.
Does the cap apply to Clash Squad or only BR?
No exception for Clash Squad, BR or custom rooms has been published, so assume all your time in the app counts.
What happens when I hit the limit?
You stop for that stretch. Garena has not published a screen-by-screen description, so details like when your hours free up, or whether you finish your current match first, stay unconfirmed.
Do I need a parent’s phone for this?
Under-18 accounts need a parental consent flow with a mandatory OTP, and a parent or guardian should be the one receiving and entering that code. Whether the number must belong to the parent has not been published.
